Barbados - we have been here once before, but did a snorkeling tour and didn't really get to see the island at all. So this time we decided to take a tour of the island. We got off the ship and went looking for a cab driver. An island tour runs about $25 per person, so that's what we paid. The 4 of us (Pam, Michael, Chris and I) were hooked up with 2 other couples, one from Norway and our ship, the other couple was from England and sailing on P&O Ventura, which was embarking in Barbados that day. We had a nice time overall, but since it was a Saturday, most of the attractions were closed, so it was a lot of scenic views and pretty beaches.
All beaches on Barbados are public, so they all have public access in some form or another
We then fed some of the green monkeys that live on the island. They seem to like bananas. We probably should have brought some from the ship, but someone else had some so it was all good.
Then on to the oldest church on the island, an Anglican Church in the parish of St James. Very pretty.
Up to the most beautiful view on the island, Cherry Tree point. But there aren't any cherry trees on Barbados, so I have no idea on the origin of the name. The view is very pretty however, so that is OK. The view is where you can see the Atlantic and the Caribbean Sea meet, which is why it's so rough.
We then went to the highest point on the island at about 750 feet. Still very pretty, but nowhere near the beach!
Back to downtown Bridgetown for a brief viewing - this is the House of Parliament and a church.
We headed back to the ship, and had some snacks before watching the sail out of the harbor. This is a photo of the P&O ship as we were docked.
Now headed for St Lucia!!!! But next onboard, dinner!!!!!
